The ‘Make in India’ initiative consists of a host of proposals, designed especially to get companies from abroad to set up shop and make India a manufacturing powerhouse.
Government of India has identified 25 thrust sectors where India can become world leader. Some of them include – IT, automobiles, aviation, chemicals, textiles, pharma, ports, and leather. In addition to this, railways, tourism, wellness, and hospitality are on prime focus too.
As a part of the campaign, the Government of India plans to ease foreign investment caps in construction, enabling more participation in Modi’s affordable housing and 100 smart cities projects. The government has already eased FDI caps in defence and railways to 49% and 100% respectively.
